7th blogmas / old school laughter

by - December 07, 2016

Picture the scene; christmas day has been and gone and my brother, mum and I are all sat on the sofa with tears running down our faces, almost unable to speak.. oh, don't worry! My family hasn't had some horrific event; we're crying with laughter!

Sometimes new is better but sometimes old is amazing and completely uncomparable with is definitely the case with some of the old (in some instances very old) shows that are reaired over the Christmas period.. The Two Ronnies, Morcambe and Wise, Bugsy Malone..we watch them every year and every year we find every line and facial expression just as funny as before!

My mum grew up with the Two Ronnies and Eric & Ernie so when she discovered that a lot of their old shows are aired on TV around Christmas time (especially the week between Christmas and New Year) she was over the moon about it and having watched practically every show at least twice by now I can totally understand why.  It's just good old fashioned humour; witty one liners and fast responses; for me these old shows have become a part of my Christmas time and I wouldn't change it for the world!

If you've never heard of them then I fully recommend you look them up on youtube: fork handles, sweet shop, Andre Previn and the breakfast sketch are all searches that should provide you with my favourite ones.

Bugsy Malone is a film that I've tried to explain before but it's almost impossible to truly capture how amazing and hilariously daft it is unless you've seen it; if you have then hopefully you'll understand why I cry with laughter during some scenes; and if you haven't then please do check it out; again it's often aired over Christmas so perfect for sitting down with leftovers and laughing your afternoon away.

Do you watch any specific shows or films, old or new, around Christmas time? Let me know what you love to laugh at in the comments!
